There are three particular things that have always been a part of Brett’s upbringing: sports, music, and church. From playing year around sports such as baseball, basketball, and football, to weekly Sunday and Wednesday gatherings at church where his dad served as the music director, Brett was always participating in one of the three. At the age of twelve, his dad surprised him with a guitar and challenged him by saying, “I really think you would enjoy this if you put the time into learning how to play it.” Throughout high school, Brett was mainly known for his involvement in sports, but he took ownership of the challenge presented by his dad, along with the 3 chords his dad showed him, and went to work on making the guitar a part of who he was.
Brett accepted the opportunity to play baseball at the collegiate level, but quickly realized his passion and calling was elsewhere. With a background of leading worship for his youth group at his home church during his high school years, Brett’s affections had been stirred to pursue a ministry of encouraging a younger generation of worshipers through music. Brett gave up his dream of playing collegiate ball and has not looked back. Since his shifted pursuit, he has had the opportunity to lead worship all across the Southeast and parts of the West for events such as dnows, summer camps, and other youth conferences. Brett has recently been placed on the 2014 roster for Centrifuge, where he and his band will be leading worship for 6 straight weeks in Panama City Beach, FL, next summer.
In the spring of 2012, Brett released his debut project entitled “Over Every Name”, comprised of 4 originals and 1 hymn with an added original chorus. In the fall of 2013, he released his sophomore project entitled “The Anthem”, comprised of 3 originals and 2 covers. Currently, Brett serves at Englewood Baptist Church in Jackson, TN, where he is the associate worship leader with a youth emphasis. In addition to EBC, you’ll also find Brett serving at Union University as the worship music coordinator for their weekly (Wed./Fri.) chapel services. When Brett is not doing one of these two, he is either on the road with his band, hunting or fishing with his dad and brothers, or enjoying some hangout time with his wife, Megan, and friends.
