Body Shape

If you’re a strummer seeking dominating sound, the Jumbo – Breedlove’s largest body shape by volume – is the perfect body shape for you. If you’ve played a Breedlove Jumbo, you know it’s a powerful experience: Sound feels sonically propelled by the movement of so much air inside the body. It’s specifically designed to convey big, beautiful chords across all six strings – a strummer’s paradise. These bodies provide a big bass response, and a sound that Breedlove Jumbo devotees describe reverently as “grand-piano like.” Breedlove Jumbos rise above the competition in their clarity and expressiveness due to their graduated tops, which add nuance to the tonal spectrum without losing volume.

Top Wood

Adirondack (red) spruce, picea rubens, originates in eastern North America. It has been the choice of bluegrass pickers for decades, and adds power to any guitar design. It is relatively heavy, with a high velocity of sound, and has the highest stiffness of all top woods across and along the grain. Adirondack spruce has higher resonance and more complex overtones than Sitka, and provides strong volume and pronounced individual note clarity with vintage sound. Responsive whether played softly or loudly, Adirondack is well suited for fingerstyle, flatpicking, or rhythm playing. The coloration can vary from creamy white to light yellow with pronounced red grain lines.

Graduated Top

Breedlove graduated tops contribute stunning balance from lows to highs. How? Graduated tops are slightly thicker on the treble side, balancing the higher energy treble frequencies with the lower energy bass frequencies traveling through the thinner bass side. The result: clearer, cleaner highs and stable, resonant lows. Because no two soundboards are exactly the same, Breedlove craftsmen evaluate each top for stiffness and density, and then graduate it accordingly. The amount of graduation is customized for each individual instrument. The top is sanded to the precise graduated thickness to achieve optimal flexibility and stiffness. This hands-on process is one of the major contributors to the Breedlove sound.

Breedlove Neck

Breedlove guitar necks feature a slimmer neck profile, which enables comfortable play, even with smaller hands. Unlike traditional dovetail neck joints that require major surgery for a neck re-set, it is easy to adjust the play action and neck angle with the Breedlove bolt-on neck and single-action truss rod. The hand-rubbed, semi-gloss Breedlove neck finish contributes to ideal playability – the finish process alone takes three days, including precise finish coat applications, fine sanding, and hand buffing and rubbing.
