Masterclass Parlor Exclusive Guitars

The angel of the Masterclass offerings, the Breedlove Masterclass Parlor delivers sweet and lively sound with an unexpected energy for this small body. We are taking this beautiful parlor to a whole new level by offering an upgrade of a Brazilian rosewood back and sides for just under $1,500. The combination of an Adirondack spruce top with Brazilian rosewood back and sides is the most magical pairing of all music woods. They were born to be matched for making rich, bold, powerful music. The Brazilian projects the lower energy bass notes and the shimmer of the treble tones like no other tonewood. The power of the stiffer Adirondack gives the energy to totally magnify this tonal brilliance to create an instrument that in incomparable to any other parlor we have experience. All Breedlove Brazilian Guitars have complete legal documentation for world travel and conveyance. This fine instrument along with all other Masterclass, Exotic and Custom Sound Studio Series instruments are available exclusively in the USA through our Distinctive Dealers or internationally through our International Distributors.

Top Wood

Bearclaw Siika spruce has a shallow, cross-grain curl that seems to increase cross-grain stiffness in acoustic guitars. Many luthiers feel that it enhances the tone and sustain of spruce. Strong, focused tone with strong fundamental — perfect for flatpicking styles. Usually takes a slightly longer period of playing time to open up. Not so cleanly defined as European spruce but, instead, as warmer, more fundamental, and largely free of overtones. It’s a good, solid sound and bluegrass flatpickers and folk-musicians tend to like it a lot. Looks like a bear has clawed across the grain of the wood. Highly appreciated for its unique patterns, resulting in an eye-catching shimmer. The figure in bearclaw is not actually caused by a bear clawing the tree. While the true cause of the figure is unknown, it is widely assumed to be caused by either genetic mutation or climactic stress.

Back and Side Wood

Brazilian rosewood is highly desirable, exceptionally rare and heavily regulated. It is regarded as one of the finest tonewoods; hard, stiff, and highly resonant with a glass-like ring that sustains; it has a floral scent, similar to roses, thus the name. A very hard, heavy wood that produces a loud, warm, rich tone, with full deep bass, and brilliant trebles, known for its sustain and clarity. Can vary from brick red and burnt orange to shades of dark brown to violet color with black spidery streaks, it looks best when quarter sawn, and can exhibit straight grain and homogenous color or wild landscape-like figuration, often compared to spider webbing.

Graduated Top

Breedlove graduated tops contribute stunning balance from lows to highs. How? Graduated tops are slightly thicker on the treble side, balancing the higher energy treble frequencies with the lower energy bass frequencies traveling through the thinner bass side. The result: clearer, cleaner highs and stable, resonant lows. Because no two soundboards are exactly the same, Breedlove craftsmen evaluate each top for stiffness and density, and then graduate it accordingly. The amount of graduation is customized for each individual instrument. The top is sanded to the precise graduated thickness to achieve optimal flexibility and stiffness. This hands-on process is one of the major contributors to the Breedlove sound.

Breedlove Neck

Breedlove guitar necks feature a slimmer neck profile, which enables comfortable play, even with smaller hands. Unlike traditional dovetail neck joints that require major surgery for a neck re-set, it is easy to adjust the play action and neck angle with the Breedlove bolt-on neck and single-action truss rod. The hand-rubbed, semi-gloss Breedlove neck finish contributes to ideal playability – the finish process alone takes three days, including precise finish coat applications, fine sanding, and hand buffing and rubbing.
