Artist Custom Instrument Profile: Cody Coggins Designs Cocobolo Dread with Sitka Top

Jul 15, 2014 | Artist News

Born in Live Oak, Texas and now residing in San Antonio, Cody has been a musical prodigy since the age of 4. He recently designed a custom Breedlove dreadnought with cocobolo back and sides - with a hand selected Sitka spruce top. When asked about his desire to design the custom instrument, he explained, "a well crafted dreadnought can inspire songs you never thought you’d write, and I wanted mine to be one of a kind.” We're excited to see this finished instrument - and to hear Cody perform on his custom Breedlove dread. About the Custom Instrument: Cocobolo Back and Sides: Cocobolo is dark, and dense, with a bright, clear, sustaining voice and a tone that is very similar to the best rosewood. Provides well-balanced tone with power, sustain and volume. Responsive, with clear, slow-decaying harmonics and a well-articulated and complex low end. Similar to Brazilian rosewood with a little less bass and more pronounced treble. Sitka Spruce Top: Sitka spruce is grown in the northwest, and has been the primary top wood for U.S.A....

Jeffrey Czum is July’s Featured Artist

Jul 08, 2014 | Artist News

This month's featured artist is Jeff Czum from Cute is What We Aim For.  Hear what he has to say about coming back after some time off and being a part of the Van's Warped Tour! Breedlove: Cute is What We Aim For is back after many years off.  What is it like hitting the stage again?   Jeff Czum: After taking a 3 year hiatus, it feels incredible to have the opportunity to perform again. I really took it for granted back in 2005-2008, so there is this appreciation among us that's very humbling. BL: How is your sound different the last time? JC: I wouldn't necessarily say that it's different, but I can say that we have all matured as musicians and it really shows throughout our live set. We have little more confidence this time around. BL: Who are your musical influences? JC: I've been on an indie/folk/r&b kick lately so I'm a little all over the place. Artists like Frightened Rabbit, Chet Faker, Blood Orange, Rocky Votolato and even Lana Del Rey really inspire me. Its simplicity at...

Christian Burghardt possesses all the qualities a fan of an acoustic-based pop artist could want: a rich, soulful voice with loads of texture; heartfelt, deeply personal lyrics; bright, nimble guitar playing, and a relatable, amiable presence to deliver it all.  Veteran writer-producer Dr. Luke saw this clearly when he signed Burghardt to his Sony Music imprint KemosabeRecords in partnership with RCA Records. Now the 26-year-old Portland, Oregon, native is releasing his debut single, “Safe Place To Land,” an uplifting, anthemic song about letting someone know you’ll always be there for them.
