The Breedlove acoustic guitar craftsmen just completed a new and stunning custom guitar designed for our dealer Music Village. This instrument features our new Concerto acoustic guitar body shape without a cutaway, and constructed with Sitka spruce for the top tonewood and exotic myrtle wood from the Breedlove acoustic guitar custom stack. The top, back and sides are finished the high gloss and the body and fingerboard are bound in koa. One of the most unique aspects of this instrument is the intricate and finely executed “brown trout” fish inlays created by our design team here at the factory in Bend, OR. For more info about this instrument please contact Music Village.
Sitka spruce as a tonewood: Sitka spruce is grown in the northwest, and has been the primary top wood for U.S.A. instruments for many decades. It is strong, light, and gives an extended harmonic content and nearly equals the power of Adirondack. Strong, focused tone with a solid fundamental — perfect for flatpicking styles. Usually takes a slightly longer period of playing time to open up. When compared with Eurpean spruce, Sitka delivers warmer, more fundamental sound, largely free of overtones. Not so cleanly defined as European spruce but, instead, a warmer, more fundamental, and largely free of overtones. It’s a good, solid sound and bluegrass flatpickers and folk-musicians tend to like it a lot. Straight uniform grain. Coloration ranges from white to pink to light brown. Learn more.
Myrtlewood as a tonewood: Myrtlewood offers a strong fundamental with a powerful voice. Grown in the northwest, it is a favorite for many styles of playing and is used primarily for back and sides. Similar to maple, it is clear and bright with superb projection and sustain, and offers a very full and balanced sound. Highly unique, no two sets are alike. Coloration ranges from blonde to taupe. The Concerto body shape: When we set out to create a guitar that would surpass the classic big body sound of the dreadnought, we didn’t just want it to be loud. We sought to bring out more tonal complexity, and to offer a much more comfortable playing experience, too. Introducing the new Breedlove Concerto, a new guitar shape created to elicit more volume than a classic dreadnought, and more lush, complex tonal resonance in a comfortable body shape that feels just right. Loud, textured, and supremely satisfying. Learn more about the Concerto acoustic guitar body shape.
Using our unique new sound profiling technology, we dial in just the right frequency for each piece of exotic tonewood, bringing out its special characteristics so you hear not just volume, but a palette of distinct tonal flavors. Crafted from woods like myrtlewood, mahogany, rosewood, koa, cocobolo, and Brazilian, the Concerto shape lets each wood resonate in a way you’ve never heard before.
