Purpleheart is very similar harmonically to a dramatically purple maple. The tone is bright and uncomplicated.

Origin: tropical Central and South America
Tone Profile: A very dense wood that delivers outstanding sustain. It is bright and punchy with very well defined bass response and great definition. Not as colored in the sound as rosewood.
Aesthetics: Brown in color when freshly cut, but oxidizes to a bright violet purple and eventually to a dark purplish brown.
