Discover Your Sound
At Breedlove Guitars, our Mission is to help you sound better, play better and enjoy playing more. We make a variety of guitars for many different playing styles, applications - not to mention various sounds and tones. Finding your Breedlove can be a little tricky at first, so we've created this section to help you hone in on your Breedlove. We've also created this simple digital guide with additional information to help you discover the Breedlove guitar that is right for you. While there are many factors which might influence your guitar selection, here are a few of the most common items to consider.
Guitars come in various sizes and shapes. As a general rule, the larger the body, the bigger the sound. But with Breedlove’s Sound Optimization, all three proprietary body shapes provide a profound, full sound. So, the choice should be made according to the size and design that feels most comfortable to you. You can sort guitars below by body shape. Additionally, you can learn more about each body shape by visiting our body shapes page.
The world’s forests provide a variety of tonewoods that produce a broad palate of sounds. The two most commonly used traditional woods for guitar backs and sides are mahogany and rosewood. At Breedlove, through our Sound Optimization™ process, we have perfected the application of a broad array of exotic woods for guitar backs and sides (learn more). Preparing each of these to their own music dimension enables a variety of tonal balance and projection.
The most commonly used top wood is Sitka spruce, preferred for its high strength to weight ratio and robust sound. Breedlove has branched out to achieve playing style and tonal variety by using Sound Optimization™ in top woods (learn more). Typically, lower-priced guitars are built with a combination of mahogany and Sitka spruce. Rosewood instruments are more expensive. Guitars crafted with exotic woods will be the most expensive. You can sort guitars by tonewood below.
Made in Bend, Oregon vs Designed in Bend.
The finest crafted Breedlove guitars are made in the United States – we build our USA models in Bend, Oregon. The retail prices begin at $1,500 and go as high as $10,000. All of our USA built guitars are crafted with all solid woods, one-piece necks, and African ebony fretboards and Delta pinless bridges. Different from other production guitar companies, we individually sand all our tops to their ideal thinness and match them to a back selected and refined by using frequency analysis for optimizing the sound. Of course, this hand voicing makes our USA crafted instruments more expensive to build, results in giving your music better sound, and makes your guitar more enjoyable to play. The USA-made models include: The custom shop and Custom Masterclass, Legacy, Premier, Frontier, Oregon and USA Series.
Breedlove also designs guitars which we have built in a contract factory in Asia. While using the design features that make Breedloves play and sound better, we can offer them at lower prices – from $299 - $1,199. While all Breedlove guitars are crafted with all solid wood tops, our instruments priced at $799 and below are built with laminated wood back and sides. These guitars cost less to produce, yet deliver great sound. Being more dependable, laminate wood back and sides have the advantage of being less sensitive to changes in air temperature and humidity and are therefore commonly used by musicians on-the-go. These models include: Stage Exotic, Stage, Solo, Pursuit Exotic, Pursuit and Discovery Series. You can sort guitars by series below.
