Moon and Bike is an instrumental music project based in Portland, Oregon. Blazing their own sonic path, they interweave acoustic and electric guitars in a way that evokes many different genres of music without really feeling like anyone in particular. With a focus on strong melodies and guitar textures, their songs are composed in a pop framework, but at times wander off into post-rock, jazz, and ambient territory. Their sound has been described as some type of fusion between Bill Frisell, Explosions in the Sky, and Daniel Lanois. Other strong influences include Peter Buck (R.E.M.) and Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins). The addition of drums to both their live shows and recordings has opened up their sonic meanderings, with John Gannon laying down a rhythmic framework over which to improvise and create bigger soundscapes.
Beginning as a duo, Michael and Boone recorded their first ten songs in 2020, which resulted in the album One. The third track on the album, Moon and Bike, was the first song they ever composed together when they met years ago in Eugene, OR, and became the first song recorded for One. They adopted the song name, a play on each of their first names, as a moniker for the musical collaboration.
They are currently hard at work on their second full-length album, which they plan to release in 2023.
Boone and Michael also have years of experience scoring original music for film as well as sound design work.
