In a country like India where engineer-turned musicians are in abundance, where picking up a
guitar and learning the four basic chords and singing love songs and putting them out on the
internet is easy; Akash Chopra has carved his own style and niche in the singer-songwriter
umbrella in the Indian independent music circuit.

Just like most musicians in India, Akash has shifted his career path from a Company Secretary to a musician. The only constant in the life of this Jaipur-based musician is his love for music. He has dedicated his life to music; from learning and being better at his craft to even teach music.

His music can be categorized as bedroom production, but that just shows the different hats he can put on. From being a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, composer, producer, music educator, and music entrepreneur – one can see that he is in this for the long haul. But it is his modesty that sets him apart. “I’m first just a guitarist, songwriter, and a music educator,” he’ll always say whenever someone asks.

Sustaining oneself solely through music can be quite difficult, especially in a country like India
where the independent music scene is shadowed by the grandeur of ‘Bollywood.’ With live gigs
coming to a halt in 2020, things seemed bleak, even for Akash but it did not take him long to adapt and come up with ‘Ukulele Wing’ which is his ukulele school. This marks Akash’s second music entrepreneurial hustle. The first being, ‘Artistickè which is a house-concert series conducted in his hometown, Jaipur.

Akash has experienced the thrill of performing in a stadium, opening for artists renowned in the Indian independent music scene but he is the most comfortable when it comes to small intimate set-ups of house gigs. The intimate setting is what resonates with the type of music Akash makes. His simple lyrics about everyday life make them relatable to everyone and his dreamy lullaby-type vocals linger in the room, dwelling in the hearts of his audience.
