Fiore Madrid is a talented musician and dedicated student of Musicology and Ethnobotany with a focus in Medicine at UCSD, where she studies jazz and contemporary music under the mentorship of renowned musician Kamau Kenyatta. In 2023, she was honored to become a Breedlove Artist, a prestigious recognition that reflects her unique artistry and musical impact. Known for her velvety contralto voice, rhythmic guitar with a percussive flair, and genre-blending performances, Fiore continues to captivate audiences. Since 2021, she’s held a residency at Prohibition, where her electrifying shows keep loyal fans coming back for more.
Her musical journey began at age 10 with piano, followed by clarinet and percussion. Though she always sang every day, Fiore kept her vocal talent a secret—until a middle school talent show, when she finally stepped into the spotlight. From there, her passion for singing grew, and she discovered her powerful contralto voice, which spans over three octaves. It wasn’t until the day before her 19th birthday that she picked up the guitar. Just 24 hours later, after learning her first full song, she was invited to perform at Lou & Mickey’s in San Diego’s Gaslamp. When the general manager asked, “Can you play guitar and sing?” she replied, “Sure can! Learned that right away.”
Fiore began performing solo at Prohibition, one of San Diego’s most iconic speakeasies, in 2019, and by 2021, she was officially booked for a residency every Friday night. Over the years, the general manager kept telling her, “As soon as you put together a band, I’ll book you.” But as a full-time UCSD student and mother, life (and time) got in the way—until one fateful phone call changed everything. In early 2024, the GM called and asked her to perform a private event in two weeks. Fiore, with only a day to decide, immediately rallied her favorite jazz musicians from UCSD and a classical violinist. After just two rehearsals, they slayed the show and the bookings started rolling in. From there, she began rotating musicians into her act, eventually assembling her dream lineup—a powerhouse band blending bluegrass, funk, jazz, rock, and blues into a sound that’s uniquely her own.
Beyond music, Fiore is a passionate advocate for indigenous and plant medicine, championing its transformative healing potential and its integration into contemporary Western medical practices.
