The wood procurement team at Breedlove recently received a very anticipated shipment… the arrival of our new supply of Cocobolo!
The Breedlove team sourced these astoundingly beautiful and tonally spectacular tonewoods from Cook Woods/Diamond Tropical Hardwoods. The cocobolo (dalbergia retusa) arrived in various grades of acoustic back and side sets, as well as fingerboards, bridge and headplate veneers. Grades vary from a “Standard” straight grain, “Master” grade with sapwood, to our “Exotic” sets that are incredible in the color and grain pattern variation. The tree, which originated in Nicaragua, was initially ordered in August 2014. Besides the inherent value of this prized tonewood specie, this material is special to us because we have full chain of custody back to the tree. We were also part of the layout process when determining how to cut sets out of the logs, ensuring the highest quality and most visually stunning sets we could yield from the logs.
Cocobolo is currently used in our Legacy Dreadnoughts and custom instrument builds in the Custom Sound Studio.
