If you live in Massachusetts, and you love guitars, then you know Breedlove Distinctive Dealer South Shore Music. Get to know them a little bit more.
How long have you been a Distinctive Dealer?
We have been a Breedlove dealer for about two years, and a Distinctive Dealer for a year and a half. After we had a chance to see what Breedlove had to offer we knew that we wanted more access to custom pieces and the availability to order Masterclass guitars. The guitars are made so well and we were having such success with the line that becoming a Distinctive Dealer was a logical next step.
What is your favorite Breedlove?
My favorite guitar has to be the Journey FS. The rescued Redwood top is very quick and warm, a lot like you would get with cedar. Coupled with Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, it's an amazing combination of loud, warm, clear and the bottom end is surprisingly boomy. The guitar is visually stunning as well.
A close second is the Oregon Concert LTD with a Myrtlewood top. That guitar just sounds too big for it's size!
What is your favorite wood combination?
I would say it would depend on the size of the guitar. I love what maple does for a jumbo, yet rosewood brings out a lot of low end in a smaller body. If I had to custom order my own perfect guitar, I would probably go with the construction of the Journey FS, which is a Redwood top and Brazilian back and sides.
Why do you think maple is such a great tonewood?
Maple is most well known for brightness that can't be matched by other tonewoods. But it can also give a guitar a transparent quality and clarity.
Best tip for deciding on what guitar to purchase?
First, you need to do your research. Visit your local music store and get on the web and gather information and opinions as to why certain woods, construction, brands and types of guitars are favored over others. However, don't get caught up in what other players prefer, the decision is up to you and what you prefer. You have to try a lot of guitars to narrow down your options, and the final decision should come down to what sounds and plays best to you.
What is your favorite part to customize on a guitar?
I really like inlays on the headstock. It doesn't have to be overly ornate, but just enough to make the guitar stand out.
