Featured Wood: Exotic Cocobolo

Cocbolo is a rosewood that grows in Central America that has striking orange and black variegations that age to deep reds and blacks.  Some exceptional pieces such as the sets pictured also have a distinct golden sapwood.  Cocobolo produces a clean, deep and resonant tone that is considered to be close to the tone of the Brazilian Rosewood used on classic prewar instruments.  The sets pictured have been treated with a fast evaporating acetone to highlight the rich colors and grain of the wood and to mimic the coloration that will be seen once the guitar has finish applied to it.
